SARTHAK NAAI - NATIONAL ABILYMPICS COMPETITIONS FOR PWD'S 2019

To select the best talent for the upcoming International event in 2020-21, NAAI and Sarthak organized Regional and National Abilympics competitions for PwDs in 10 skill categories under ICT, Crafts and Food in 2018. The events were hosted in Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Delhi.

In continuation to 2018 Regional and National competitions, NAAI further took up 10 more new skills under ICT, Crafts, Services, Industry and Food in 2019 to organize Regional competitions for the selection of PwDs for the next round of the national event in 2019 –

• ICT/Computers – Desktop Publishing, Character Designing, Esports
• Crafts – Floral Arrangement
• Food – Bakery, Cooking
• Industry – CAD Architecture
• Services – Tailoring, Jewellery Making; Beauty Therapy.

The regional completions were organized with the support of The Hans Foundation, in four zones namely –

• West Zone: Mumbai – 14th & 15th June 2019
• North Zone: Delhi – 4th & 5th July 2019
• South Zone: Chennai – 19th & 20th July 2019
• East Zone: Kolkata – 9th & 10th August 2019.

Four different activities constituted the two-day event –

1. Inaugural Ceremony and Regional conference on ‘Excellence in Skilling of PwDs through Abilympics.
2. Vocational skill competitions in 10 new skill trades
3. Job Fair for PwDs
4. Valedictory session and Awards ceremony.

The regional event was graced by more than 800 attendees, of which 235 were participants, and others included guests, visitors, officials and eminent panellists. Overall there were 79 medallists (23 Gold, 28 Silver and 28 Bronze).

To finalize the participants in these above 10 new skill trades, NAAI will now be conducting the National competitions, where winners from Regional competitions – 2019, will compete against each other to secure a place for the International Abilympics competitions proposed to be held in 2020-21 in Russia.
