NAAI is in its 17th year of existence. During this period the Abilympics movement has spread throughout the country and has helped increase awareness about the abilities of persons with disability in society. Each year, since its inception, the organization has continued to grow whilst maintaining a high standard.

International participation:

Since its beginning NAAI has represented India in the 6th (2003-India), 7th (2007- Japan), 8th (2011-South Korea) and 9th (2016 - France), International Abilympics. Brief details of Indian participation in International Abilympics are as follows:

Regional Competition:

Next International Abilympics are proposed to be held in China in 2020. To select the best talent available in different areas of India, Regional Abilympic eventswere organized in May-June 2018 covering all zones of India. The events were organized in –

  1. Pune - 29th & 30th May, 2018
  2. Kolkata - 1st & 2nd June, 2018
  3. Hyderabad - 15th & 16th June, 2018
  4. Noida - 29th & 30th June, 2018

The competitions were held in 10 skill trades –

  1. ICT/Computers – Data Processing; Word Processing/English Text Processing; Creating Web Pages; Poster Designing; Computer Programming and Photography
  2. Crafts – Embroidery; Waste Reuse and Painting
  3. Food – Restaurant Service

National Competition:

Following the regional selections, NAAI conducted the National Abilympic competitions from October 2-6, 2018, alongwith the World Skills India competitions for non-Divyangjan, In Aerocity, New Delhi. This was the first ever platform, where Divyangjan and Non-Divyangjan competed alongside each other as an inclusion initiative by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the ambit of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

Thereafter, skill support would now be arranged for selected participants through corporate partners to further hone their skills for international competitions. The selected participants would then participate in International Abilympics in 2020.

All this was made possible through the support of the Indian government, NGOs, and Corporate partners.
