Abilympics are vocational skill competitions for persons with disabilities to enable them to showcase and enhance their talent. Abilympics empower the contestants and help create public awareness about their abilities.
The National Abilympic Association of India was formed in May 2001 at the behest of the Minitrsies of Social Justice & Empowerment and Human Resource Development, Government of India to serve as a nodal agency to formulate, initiate and implement policies to propogate Abilympics in the country. The registered office is located at Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, Karkar Dooma, Vikas Marg, Delhi ? 110092 and is guided by a Governing Body. This was followed by identifying and appointing Zonal Vice Presidents from renowned NGOs in five regions of the country viz. East at Kolkata; West at Ahmedabad; South at Chennai and North as well as Central at Delhi. Later a zonal vice president was appointed at Bhopal to promote abilympics in the central zone. All the zonal vice presidents are associated with local NGOs with requisite infrastructure in the disability sector. The VPs organize District level abilympics in their zone with the help of NGOs, district administrations and other agencies. Some of the zones organize pre-regional before organizing Regional Abilympics to get the maximum number of participants from all over the country.
The Mission of National Abilympic Association of India is to create public awareness and nurture the productive talents of persons with disabilities by providing them opportunities to acquire and enhance their vocational skills to achieve economic independence.
The main aims & objectives of NAAI are :
To formulate, initiate and implement policies to propagate Abilympics – the Olympics of vocational skills - in the country.
To provide facilities for enhancement of skills in different vocations to persons with disabilities.
To promote and organize Regional, National and International meets and competitions in vocational skills.
To involve Central and State Governments & NGOs in the activities of NAAI.
To empower persons with disabilities for economic independence.
To provide exposure and opportunity to persons with disabilities to share and learn latest technological developments in various vocational fields
7th IA were held at Shizouka, Japan November 13 - 18, 2007
During the 7th IA India an Indian contingent of 29 participants won 3 Silver (Desktop Publishing, Photography and Embroidery), 1 bronze (Photography) medal and a Certificate of Excellence (Mechanical Assembly). The silver and bronze medal winners were given a cash award of Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- respectively by the Government of India.
8th IA are scheduled to be held from September 25- 30,2011 at Olympic Park, Seoul, South Korea.

Dr. Uma Tuli, Secretary General, NAAI has been elected as a Member of the International Abilympic Federation Executive Committee for the term 2007 -11.
